A MID 17TH CENTURY EUROPEAN LOBSTER TAILED HELMET OF A STYLE OFTEN REFERRED TO AS A “DUTCH POT”. OVERALL THIS IS A CLEAN EXAMPLE WITH A GOOD AGED PATINA. ONE EAR FLAP IS DETACHED AS SHOWN, BUT COULD BE RE-ATTACHED WITH SOME WIRE FOR EASY DISPLAY. OTHERWISE A NICE EXAMPLE IN UNTOUCHED CONDITION. DUE TO A SHORTAGE OF ARMOUR DURING THE ENGLISH CIVIL WAR ARMOUR SUCH AS THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPORTED INTO ENGLAND TO HELP SUPPLY THE DEMAND MAINLY BY THE ROYALIST SIDE, THE CROMWELLIAN’S HAVING CONTROL OF MOST OF THE ARMOURIES
