PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED WRITE UP COURTESY OF PARADATA.ORG.UK FOR A FULL SERVICE HISTORY OF COLONEL E G WOODMAN WHO WON THE MC DURING OPERATION VARSITY IN 1945 AND SUBSEQUENTLY COMMANDED A PARATROOP BATTALION IN PALESTINE IN 1946.
THE UNIFORM SET COMPRISES OF:
A 1945 DATED MAROON BERET COMPLETE WITH THE NAME LABEL ‘Eric G Woodman’ AND PARA CAP BADGE . THE BERET IS IN GENERALLY GOOD CONDITION BUT THE EXTERIOR HAS FADED CONSIDERABLY TO A MORE BROWN COLOUR BUT THE MAROON CAN DEFINITELY BE SEEN WHEN PULLING BACK THE LEATHER BAND. IT IS THEREFORE LIKELY THAT THIS IS THE BERET WORN BY WOODMAN AT VARSITY AND THEN SUBSEQUENTLY IN PALESTINE WHERE IT HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THE STRONG SUN.
A BATTLE DRESS BLOUSE WITH A CLOTHING CODE OF ‘ N ‘ WHICH DATES IT TO 1943 . HAS THE NAME LABEL E G WOODMAN ATTACHED. ALTHOUGH NO BADGES ARE PRESENT ONE CAN CLEARLY SEE WHERE BOTH THE PEGASUS AND AIRBORNE WINGS HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM THE SLEEVES. THIS WOULD RESTORE WELL WITH ORIGINAL BADGES ATTACHED BUT WE WILL LEAVE THAT TO THE NEXT OWNER TO DECIDE AS WE WANT TO SELL THIS AS ORIGINAL UNTOUCHED .
