A REMARKABLE TIME CAPSULE OF ITEMS FORMERLY BELONGING TO CHARLES CRABTREE WHO WAS RESCUED AT SEA WHEN HIS SHIP THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER HMS EAGLE WAS SUNK WAS THE LOSS OF OVER 100 MEN IN AUGUST 1942 WHEN PERFORMING MALTA CONVOY DUTIES BY AN ITALIAN SUBMARINE.
REMARKABLY THE CONTENTS INCLUDE THE CAP TALLY AND THE PAY BOOK (WATER DAMAGED!) WHICH HE CARRIED WHEN ABANDONING SHIP AND SUBSEQUENT RESCUE. THERE IS EVEN A TELEGRAM WHICH HE SENT THE NEXT DAY TO HIS MOTHER TELLING HER HE WAS OK AND NOT TO WORRY!
HIS SERVICE ORIGINAL SERVICE PAPERS, MEDAL ENTITLEMENT SLIP AND ORIGINAL PHOTOS OF HIM AND HIS SEA MATES ALSO INCLUDED AS ARE POST WAR ISSUED MEDALS AND CERTIFICATES TO HIM FROM BOTH THE BELGIUM GOVERNMENT AND RUSSIAN EMBASSY FOR HIS WAR EFFORTS.
