FROM A UNIQUE COLLECTION OF ROYAL NAVY ITEMS BELONGING TO ADMIRAL MATTHEW BUCKLE SENIOR, (1716 – 1784), AND HIS SON, ADMIRAL BUCKLE (1770 – 1855). SOLD OFF SEVERAL YEARS AGO FROM THE FAMILY SEAT, NORTH HOUSE IN SURREY. MANY FROM THE BUCKLE FAMILY HAD LONG HISTORICAL CARRIERS IN THE ROYAL NAVY INCLUDING THE SON OF THE SECOND ADMIRAL, ADMIRAL SIR CLAUDE BUCKLE. AS SUCH, THE THE HOUSE OF THE FAMILY ESTATE DISPLAYED MANY FINE ROYAL NAVAL THEMED PCITURE DEPICTING THEMSELVE, AND GREAT ROYAL NAVAL ENGAGEMENTS. THE FIST ADMIRAL BUCKLE DIED, A FULL ADMIRAL, 7TH JULY 1784. HIS FIRST ACTION WAS THE CAPTURE OF THE SPANISH SHIP, GLORIOSO IN 1747. WENT ON TO COMMAND, HMS THE ROYAL GEORGE. TOOK PART IN THE ATTACK ON HAVANA IN 1762. MUCH INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND OUT EH THE ROYAL NAVY BUCKLE FAMILY ON-LINE.
FRAMED AND GLAZED 1771 DATED MEZZOTINT OF THE BURNING OF THE SHIP, PRUDENT, AND THE BIENFAIFANT IN LOUISBOURH HARBOUR IN 1758. TO THE BACK OF THE FRAME, A LARGE STUCK ON PIECE WITH DESCRITION OF THE PICTURE WRITTEN BY VICE ADMIRAL C.M. BUCKLE DESCIBING (CAPTAIN AT THE TIME) BUCKLE HOW HIS ANCESTOR HAD BEEN PART OF THE SHOWN ACTION. HE ALSO STATES WHO MADE THE FRAME, AND WHEN IT WAS DONE IN 1791. OAK FRAME, 893 BY 680 MM
