FROM A UNIQUE COLLECTION OF ROYAL NAVY ITEMS BELONGING TO ADMIRAL MATTHEW BUCKLE SENIOR, (1716 – 1784), AND HIS SON, ADMIRAL BUCKLE (1770 – 1855). SOLD OFF SEVERAL YEARS AGO FROM THE FAMILY SEAT, NORTH HOUSE IN SURREY. MANY FROM THE BUCKLE FAMILY HAD LONG HISTORICAL CARRIERS IN THE ROYAL NAVY INCLUDING THE SON OF THE SECOND ADMIRAL, ADMIRAL SIR CLAUDE BUCKLE. AS SUCH, THE THE HOUSE OF THE FAMILY ESTATE DISPLAYED MANY FINE ROYAL NAVAL THEMED PCITURE DEPICTING THEMSELVE, AND GREAT ROYAL NAVAL ENGAGEMENTS. THE FIST ADMIRAL BUCKLE DIED, A FULL ADMIRAL, 7TH JULY 1784. HIS FIRST ACTION WAS THE CAPTURE OF THE SPANISH SHIP, GLORIOSO IN 1747. WENT ON TO COMMAND, HMS THE ROYAL GEORGE. TOOK PART IN THE ATTACK ON HAVANA IN 1762. MUCH INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND OUT EH THE ROYAL NAVY BUCKLE FAMILY ON-LINE.

A FRAMED AND GLAZED MEZZOTINT SHOWING THE SPANISH SHIP, THE GLORIOSO WHICH WAS CAPTURED IN 1747, AN ACTION IN WHICH THE FIRST ADMIRAL BUCKLE TOOK PART IN IN THE EARLY STAGES OF HIS NAVAL CAREER. OF MORE INTEREST, TO TH BACK OF THE FRAME, STUCK TO THE LINING SHEET, A DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTION WRITTEN BY A LATER AMDIRAL BUCKLE (VICE ADMIRAL AT THE TIME OF WRITING), C.M. BUCKLE.
