Product Information
A VERY NICE, BATTLE OF OMDURMAN PERIOD KASKARA, MOST PROBABLY BROUGHT HOME BY A BRITISH SOLDIER AFTER THE 1898 VICTORY. THE MAHDI COULD NOT MAKE ENOUGH BLADES THEMSELVES. THE GERMAN IN PARTICULAR SUPPLIED A LOT OF BROAD SWORD BLADES TO THE MAHDI, SOME MADE FOR SUPPLY, WHICH WAS STILL NOT ENOUGH, SO GERMAN BUYING AGENTS SOURCED BLADES FROM WHERE EVER THEY COULD, INCLUDING OLD HISTORIC BLADES SUCH AS THIS. THE BLADE APPEARS TO BE FROM A GERMAN CIRCA 1650 EXICUTIONERS SWORD, OR SWORD OF JUSTICE. BLADE, JUST 626 MM LONG WITH LONG RICASSO AND CENTRAL FULLER. TO BOTH SIDES OF THE FULLER CAN BE SEEN TYPICAL ENGRAVINGS FOUND ON GERMAN JUSTICE SWORDS, LTHOUGH FADED. THERE APPEARS TO BE A CRUCIFIX TO THE START OF THE FULLER WHICH IS TYPICAL OF THESE SWORDS. WELL FORMED IRON GUARD. SNAKE SKIN AND LEATHER COVERED HILT IN ITS ORIGINAL LEATHER SCABBARD. BRASS CAHPE AND SNAKE SKIN COVER TO THE LOWER SWELL. TWO LARGE COPPER RINGS WITH DARK PATINA. LEATHER WITH SOME SHRINAGE AND A REPAIR. CROCODILE SKIN TO THE TOP.
