BASKET HILT BROAD SWORD MADE BY WILKINSON IN THE 1915-17 PERIOD. MADE ON COMMISION FOR ALEXANDER PAUL DAVIDSON. DAVIDSON JOINED THE HIGHLAND LIGHT INFANTRY IN JULY 1916, PRESUMABLY HAVING THIS SWORD MADE FOR HIS SERVICE BEFORE THIS TIME. HE TRANFERED TO THE RFC LATER IN JULY 1916. STAYED WITH TH ERFC, THEN ONTO THE RAF. WENT CARRIER IN THE RAF AFTER THE WAR EVENTUALLY BECOMING AN AIR VICE MARSHALL. SERVED THROUGHOUT WW2. AWARDED THE KBE AND CBE. WITH MUCH RESEARCH. COPIES OF HIS SERCIE RECORD, AND DETAILS OF THE SALE OF HIS MEDALS. THE SWORD WITH GOOD CLEAN 832 MM LONG BLADE. ETCHED WITH SCOTTISH THISTLES, GVR CIPHER AND WILKINSONS LONDON ADDRESS. NO RUST OR PITTING. STEEL BASKET GUARD WITH RED LINER. COMPLETE GRIP WITH WIRE BINDING. IN BROWN LEATHER COVERED FIELD SCABBARD COMPLETE WITH SAME-BROWN FROG. CORRECT BROAD SWORD SCABBARD WITH LONG STEEL CHAPE AND BALL FINIAL.
