VERY IMPRESSIVE LARGE, LONG, HEAVY VIKING BROADSWORD. ON CONSIGNMENT – PROVENANCE – OBTAINED BY THE VENDOR’S FATHER FROM THE CHAPEL AT WISETON HALL IN NORTH NOTTINGHAMSHIRE DURING THE HALL’S DEMOLITION IN 1960′S. A 19TH CENTURY FIND ON THE BANKS OF THE RIVER TRENT. 125 CM LONG OVERALL, THE BLADE, 107 CM. WITH HEAVY THICK LOBED POMMEL, THE TYPE OF WHICH SWORD EXPERT SIR MORTIMER WHEELER REFERED TO AS “TYPE VI” IN VARIATIONS OF SCANDANAVIAN SWORDS. THE SWORD WAS MOUNTED ON THE WALL FOR DISPLAY AT THE CHAPEL. UNFORTUNATELY, TO DO THIS, THEY DRILL TWO SMALL HOLES TO THE BLADE TO SCREW IT TO THE WALL. THEY COULD BE PLUGGED, BUT DON’T STAND OUT TOO MUCH. HENCE THE PRICE OF THIS SUPERB SWORD
