A RARE AND INTERESTING EXAMPLE OF THE CLASSIC BRITISH TRAFALGAR PERIOD LONG SEA SERVICE PISTOL. WITH G.R. PROOFS TO THE 12 INCH BARREL. INSPECTION BROAD ARROW TO THE TOWER LOCK. WITH “BO” UNDER BROAD ARROW TO INDICATE THE PISTOL WAS TAKEN INTO SERVICE. WITH SHIPS ARMOURERS MARK TO THE SIDE PLATE OF “MD 13″, AND “13″ TO THE TRIGGER GUARD. THIS DENOTES THAT THE PISTOL WAS IN THE ARMOURY STORE OF A “MAN OF WAR” THREE DECK SHIP, THIS BEING  PISTOL NUMBER 13 IN THE MIDDLE DECK.    THE 1801 PATT SEAS SERVICE PISTOL IS NOT A PARTICULARLY RARE PISTOL. THIS IS BECAUSE, AFTER THE BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR, THE ORDNANCE STARTED TO APPRECIATE THE VALUE OF THE ROYAL NAVY, AND BOOSTED THE PRODUCTION OF NAVAL WEAPONS. THE MAJORITY OF 1801 PATT PISTOLS AROUND TODAY WERE MADE, PUT IN STORE, AND NOT SOLD FROM THE TOWER OF LONDON TILL THE 1960′S WHEN THEY WERE SOLD OFF IN PAIRS.   IT IS ARE TO FIND AN 1801 THAT ACTUALLY SAW SERVICE SUCH AS THIS  WITH ITS “BO” AND ARROW ISSUE MARK, AND WITH TYPICAL SHIPS ARMOURERS MARKS, DONE IN PIN-PUNCH LINES. LOCK IN GOOD WORKING ORDER.
